11 to 12 Inch Fashion Doll Dress
In this series of articles I will be working with a doll that I haven't addressed yet, I guess it's about time! As a child I loved my Barbie; she was an original Titian, bubble cut. My mother made many outfits for her and I spent hours undressing and dressing her. Unfortunately, as a young adult moving out of my parent's house, I lost track of her. I don't know if she was given to another young child but I never saw her again. Since I began collecting and designing dolls and doll clothes I have avoided Barbie type fashion dolls because my favorite will always be baby dolls. But I think the time has come to change that, so here goes.
"
This doll is 11 1/2 inches tall with a 3 3/4 inch waist and 5 1/2 inch bust. She is a generic doll I bought at a craft store to make clothes for. Before making this dress for your fashion doll please measure your doll to ensure the dress will fit.
Since I made a "back to school" dress for my Ginny dolls I decided to start dressing this doll by making a matching dress for her. I used the same fabric to make the dress and the same trims to decorate it. To see the Ginny dress look here.
As with the Ginny dress, this dress can probably be made from your scrap basket. The largest piece of fabric is, of course, the skirt; but a quarter yard will make a few dresses! the satin ribbon for the waist and the trim at the neck were both left over after making the previous dress. And as with the other dress, these pieces are very small. You will definitely want to press the fabric before you sew the dress and do all the sewing by hand.
